D&D London has launched its first ever Indian restaurant, Carom, at a site in Wardour Street formerly occupied by Meza. Named after an Indian spice, Carom offers a menu based around a sharing concept, and has Bala Balachander as head chef.
An extensive choice of dishes in a variety of sizes will allow diners to tailor their menu to their appetite, putting together a meal to suit their taste and mood. Carom is also serving a range of Indian wines and whisky ‘never before seen in London’, including the full range of single malts from the Amrut distillery in Bangalore. Guests will also be able to play Carom, the Indian table top game which is a combination of billiards and table shuffleboard.
Head chef Bala Balachander spent three years at Benares, during which time it won a Michelin star, working his way up from the position of sous to executive chef. Having spent years dedicated solely to Indian food, Bala took an opportunity to learn something new and joined The Meat & Wine Co in 2005 as executive chef, opening its first London restaurant. Although Bala learned about running a restaurant and large team while he was at The Meat & Wine Co, he always knew he would return to his Indian routes. Carom is his debut as an executive chef with D&D, launching its first Indian restaurant in the capital.
