Marketplace dining comes to London
January 28, 2012 No Comments
Potli restaurant and bar, which has recently opened in Ravenscourt Park, West London, focuses on Indian marketplace dining drawing inspiration from the famous Chowpatty beach in Mumbai, Chowrenghee Lane in Kolkata, and Aminabad, a market in Old Lucknow.
The menu includes snacks such as Bhel Puri, from Chowpatty a classic Mumbai style murmura (puffed rice) mixed with roasted peanuts, onions, cucumber and served with tangy chutneys. Aminabad dishes include Gilafi Sheek Kebab, skewered kebabs of prime lamb mince infused with fresh herbs and aromatic spices and topped with caremelised onions and peppers. There are meat and vegetable curries available, including Lamb Shank Roganjosh.
The interior of Potli is bright and colourful, while decorative milk cans and sacks of produce evoke a real sense of an Indian marketplace. Handcrafted lights from India hang from the ceiling, and a large painting is the main focal point in the dining room, painted by a famous artist from Hyderabad.
The ground floor dining room seats 40 and the bar seats 25. The downstairs dining room, which seats 40, and holds 50 standing, also has a view into the kitchen and can be used for private dining, parties and conferences as well.
The adjacent bar, open throughout the day for drinks and snacks, offers an extensive wine list, as well as a selection of cocktails. Signature cocktails include the Old Delhi Mojito, an Indian version of the classic served with apple and mango. Outdoor seating is also available for 24 people.
