Anwar is Peru bound

107Anwar Choudhury, who has family links with the curry restaurant industry and used to work as a waiter while he was studying, has been appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Peru in succession to James Dauris. He will take up his appointment during August 2014.

Anwar was appointed British High Commissioner to Bangladesh in 2004 where he served for four years, returning to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in 2008 as Director International Institutions responsible for multilateral policy. Thereafter, he worked on initiatives to improve the FCO, where he was presented with the Institute of Government award for ‘Inspiration in Government’ for his work on Diplomatic Excellence.

On his latest appointment Anwar said, “Peru is a rising country. There is a huge opportunity to further strengthen our relationship on trade and investment, education and security. Peru’s people, culture and cuisine are additional attractions and I am looking forward to working with our excellent team in Lima on our ambition for closer ties between the UK and Peru.”
