23 (1)North West entrepreneur Jaf Siddiqi is opening a new restaurant called Malai in the Manchester district of Rusholme and says he expects the £1 million venture to be the first of many. Further restaurants are planned over the next three years, including one in Manchester city centre next summer.

Jaf says, “I have identified a gap in the market for a venue which can offer excellent service and home cooked Indian food, accompanied by the very best hand selected wines and a bespoke cocktail list, all in a sophisticated and luxurious environment.” Malai, which is located on Wilmslow Road s designed to stand out from the crowd with features including a special corporate business club for business lunches.
The 120 seat restaurant has luxury furnishings and fittings with a vibrant colour scheme. Diners will also be able to enjoy watching their food being prepared in a specially designed open kitchen as well as being provided with theatre style cooking and table-side tandoor ovens. Malai’s exterior design will see the building’s façade undergo a dramatic facelift. The original brickwork will be replaced with dramatic floor-to-ceiling bay windows and a second floor balcony to overlook the ‘hustle and bustle’ outside.
